Ramakrishna Math, Puducherry, established in 2022, had been functioning in a small rented house until recently. The centre has now moved to its newly constructed premises, marking a significant milestone in its spiritual, educational, and service activities.

The auspicious occasion was celebrated on 9 and 10 October 2026, coinciding with the sacred birth anniversary of Swami Akhandanandaji Maharaj.

On 9 October, Vinayaka Homa and Vastu Homa were performed by local priests as part of the inaugural rituals. Most Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, formally opened the newly constructed Monks’ Quarters. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Shri Kailashnathan, graced the occasion and participated in the Purnahuti.

On the morning of 10 October, a colourful procession was taken around the temple, adding traditional splendour to the celebrations. Most Revered President Maharaj then consecrated the new temple amidst sacred rituals. A Homa was performed, followed by the benediction of Most Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj.

In the afternoon, at 4.00 p.m., the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry formally inaugurated the Service Activities Block, which houses a charitable dispensary and facilities for youth-related training programmes. The inaugural meeting was attended by Most Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj; Swami Bodhasaranandaji, Assistant General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math; the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Puducherry; Shri Sriram Subramanyam, Managing Director, Integra Software Solutions, Puducherry; and Shri Ganesh Wodayar, among other dignitaries.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the centre's service initiatives. Swami Bodhasaranandaji and the other speakers also shared their thoughts on the occasion. Swami Raghunayakananda, Manager of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, proposed the vote of thanks.

Most Revered President Maharaj and the Hon’ble Chief Minister felicitated the engineers and volunteers whose dedicated efforts had contributed to the successful completion of the project.

The afternoon programme featured a musical discourse by Swami Harivratānanda. Talks were also delivered by Swami Atmaghananandaji, Swami Sukhadevanandaji, and Swami Paramasukhananda, adding a spiritual and inspirational dimension to the celebrations.

Approximately 54 monastics and 1,100 devotees participated in the two-day inaugural celebrations.

The inauguration marked a memorable chapter in the history of Ramakrishna Math, Puducherry. With its new temple, Monks’ Quarters, charitable dispensary, and youth training facilities, the centre is poised to expand its spiritual, educational, and philanthropic activities, carrying forward the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda.

133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day at Vivekanandar Illam, Chennai On 11th Sep 2026, the 133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day was commemorated with devotion, inspiration and patriotic fervour at Vivekanandar Illam, Chennai, the historic place where the message of Swami Vivekananda continues to inspire generations.
The programme brought together revered Swamijis, students, faculty members, volunteers and devotees to reflect upon the timeless message of Swami Vivekananda's historic Chicago Address and its profound relevance to the world today.
A Reverential Beginning
The celebrations commenced with a solemn flower offering to Swami Vivekananda at the portico of Vivekanandar Illam by the revered Swamijis of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.
This was followed by Arati and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Swamijis, accompanied by the chanting of Shanti Mantras, creating an atmosphere of peace, devotion and spiritual harmony.
The spirit of patriotism was beautifully expressed through a patriotic group song presented by three students of M.O.P. Vaishnav College, setting an inspiring tone for the proceedings.
The gathering was formally welcomed by Swami Mahadevananda ji Maharaj, Director, Vivekananda Cultural Centre, who introduced the significance of the occasion and highlighted the enduring relevance of Swami Vivekananda's message of universal brotherhood.
The Special Address was delivered by Revered Swami Dhyanagamyananda ji Maharaj, Secretary, Vivekananda College, Chennai, on the theme: “Universal Brotherhood and Its Relevance in Our Lives Today”
The address served as a meaningful reminder that Swami Vivekananda's vision transcended barriers of religion, caste, nationality and culture. His call for harmony, mutual respect and the recognition of the divinity inherent in every human being remains particularly relevant in today's rapidly changing and interconnected world.
A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation by students from Guru Nanak College, M.O.P. Vaishnav College and Thiruthangal Nadar College on “Swami Vivekananda's historic Chicago Address and its relevance today”.
Through their presentations, the students explored the powerful ideas expressed by Swami Vivekananda at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago and reflected on how those ideals can guide society towards greater understanding, tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence.
The enthusiastic participation of young students added a vibrant and contemporary dimension to the celebration.
The programme witnessed the participation of students from several prominent educational institutions in Chennai:

M.O.P. Vaishnav College
Chellammal Women's College
Bharathi Women's College
Guru Nanak College
Thiruthangal Nadar College
A total of 287 students participated in the programme, accompanied by 7 faculty members. Their enthusiastic presence reflected the continued interest among the younger generation in understanding and carrying forward Swami Vivekananda's message.
The event was also supported by 12 Vivekananda Youth Forum volunteers and Math devotees, whose dedicated efforts contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the programme.
Following the presentations and a tea break, the gathering received the Benedictory Address from Revered President Swami Satyajnanananda ji Maharaj, Adhyaksha, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. Followed by this there was Question & Answer session open to all gathering, and it was very enkindling, thoughful and enlightening.
The occasion also included the felicitation of the dignitaries, participating institutions and the students who contributed to the group singing. The felicitation served as an expression of gratitude and appreciation for the collective participation that made the celebration meaningful and memorable.
The programme concluded with the Concluding Remarks and Vote of Thanks delivered by Revered Swami Raghunayakananda ji Maharaj, Manager, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai.
As part of the programme, the participating students had the opportunity to visit the Vivekanandar Illam Museum. The visit provided them with an opportunity to learn more about Swami Vivekananda's life, teachings and his historic connection with Chennai.
For many of the students, the museum visit offered a deeper and more personal understanding of the life and legacy of the great monk whose message continues to inspire millions across the world.
Prasadam was provided to all the participants as the programme concluded.
The 133rd Anniversary Celebration of Universal Brotherhood Day was not merely a commemoration of a historic event; it was a renewed call to embrace the ideals that Swami Vivekananda proclaimed before the world more than a century ago.
His message of universal acceptance, harmony, mutual respect and the oneness of humanity remains as powerful and relevant today as it was when he addressed the gathering in Chicago.
As students, teachers, volunteers, devotees and well-wishers came together at Vivekanandar Illam, the celebration reaffirmed a timeless truth: the ideal of universal brotherhood is not merely a message to be remembered—it is a value to be lived.
The gathering thus became a fitting tribute to Swami Vivekananda and his enduring vision of a world united by love, understanding and spiritual harmony.

1) Our Balamandir students had the good opportunity of performing Kumkum Archana on Sunday, 30th August, 2026.

2) 38 students (15 girls & 23 boys) attended the programme. Our Shloka teacher chanted 108 Mantras on Sri Ramakrishna and the Holy Mother, and the students repeated them and performed the Archana.

3) Nearly 55 parents (men and women) were present. They also repeated the Mantras along with the students.

4) Parents expressed their happiness seeing their children performing the Archana.

5) After the Archana, Dr Matangi, a leading doctor in Chennai, addressed then parents. She spoke about “Powerful Parenting Through 3 Key Words Usage” and gave important, relevant suggestions to parents on bringing up their children in a better way for their future.

6) Swami Satyaprabhananda gave a brief talk in which he told the students that this human life is a wonderful and rare opportunity to create a remarkable meaning.

7) After the talk, there was a Question &amp; Answer session too.

8) The programme ended with the distribution of Prasadam to the students as well as the parents.
