On 9th November 2022, an interactive workshop was conducted on Life Skills/Value Education/Personality Enhancement for Fifty-Two students of UG & PG (Tamil Department) accompanied by two faculties from Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science-Madhanangkuppam, Chennai. The interactive workshop was conducted in Vivekananda Cultural Centre (VCC), Vivekanandar Illam Campus, Kamarajar Salai (Old Marina Beach Road), Triplicane-Chennai.
The first session in Tamil was led by Smt. Varsha ji, volunteer and devotee of Ramakrishna Math, who made students dive deep into their minds and discover the flow of their thoughts through an innovative activity using simple beads! It was followed by valuable lessons on honesty and being honest and sincere in writing exams plus respecting persons of other faith and less privileged persons through fun-filled activity-based learning, which all the students appreciated well.
The next session was by Dr. Krishnaveni Hariram, who made all the participants travel back to the times of Thiruvalluvar-our ancient sage from Tamilnadu, and blended the message of Swami Vivekananda in the modern context.
In the end, all participants were taken on a guided tour of the ‘Experience Vivekananda’ Museum, where they saw an ancient Indian heritage gallery, the history of Ice House and Swami Vivekananda galleries-childhood and youth, 3-D show depicting the famous Chicago speech, culminating in a 1-minute silent meditation in the room where Swami Vivekananda had stayed for nine days from 6th to 9th February (circa1897)!
