Swami Vivekananda’s historical speech at the Parliament of Religions at Chicago on 11th September 1893 is observed as Universal Brotherhood Day every year around the world. In his first address he started his speech as “Sisters and Brothers of America”. A Great wave of enthusiasm went through the audience. They rose to their feet with shouts of applause continuously for a 2 minutes. In his speech he propagated religious tolerance and harmony. The American Press praised Swami Vivekananda as “Cyclonic Monk from India” and highlighted his lofty ideals, which not only kept the name and fame of Swami Vivekananda, but also of India and Hindu Dharma on top of the world. His speech at the Chicago Parliament of Religions were key in putting India and Sanatana Dharma on global map, introducing India to the West and that thrashed the false image webbed by westerners about India and Sanatana Dharma.
As part of 125th anniversary of serving Humanity, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai is observing 129th year of historic “Chicago Speech” of Swami Vivekananda as Universal Brotherhood Day, on Sunday, 11th September 2022 from 10.00 onwards at Swami Ramakrishnananda Hall in the Math premises as a religious ceremony.
Dr. Smt. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Lt. Governor of Pondicherry State has kindly consented to participate in the religious programme.
