Leprosy-cured Divyangan (LCD) continue to face deep-rooted stigma, fear of discrimination, and mobility-related challenges, which often hinder their participation in social activities, including pilgrimages (Tirth yathra). Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) empowers them through inclusive practices, ensuring accessibility, dignity, and active participation in community life, including cultural events, festivals, yathra etc.

As part of its CBR services, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, in collaboration with SAKSHAM Savita, organized eighth Tirtha Yatra from 31st March to 7th April 2025 to the sacred places such as Prayagraj (Triveni sangam), Ayodhya, Varanasi (Kashi), and Gaya. This is the second Kashi Yathra, which involved 16 LCDs and 15 family members, facilitating both a spiritually enriching experience and socially inclusivity. With the support of SAKSHAM functionaries and volunteers, Southern Railway officials, the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, and State and District Officers of Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) from Uttar Pradesh, the Yathra team ensured smooth travel, comfortable accommodation, and facilitated darshan at major temples including Sri Ram Mandir constructed at Sri Ram Janma Bhoomi at Ayodhya and Sri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir.

During the Yatra, the team visited 21 sacred sites across various holy cities. In Prayagraj, they took a holy snan at the Triveni Sangam and had darshan of Akshayavat, Pathala Puri, Hanuman Bada Mandir, and Alopi Devi, a revered Shakti Peeth. In Ayodhya, they performed snan in the Holy Sarayu River and had darshan of Sri Ram Lalla at the newly constructed Sri Ram Mandir at Ram Janmabhoomi, along with visits to Kanak Bhavan, Raj Darbar, Raj Dwar, Valmiki Bhavan, Shri Maniramdas Chhawni, Maharaja Dasharath Mahal, and Sri Hanuman Garhi Mandir. The team then travelled to Kashi (Varanasi), where they took a holy dip in the Ganga, visited Sri Kashi Vishwanath Mandir, Maa Annapurna Mandir, Sri Kal Bhairav Mandir, and explored all 64 ghats of the city by boat. In Gaya, they visited the Phalgu River, Vishnupad Temple, Akshayavat, the Mahabodhi Temple, and the sacred Mahabodhi Tree at Bodh Gaya where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The Yatra concluded with darshan at the Jagannath Temple in Bodh Gaya, marking a spiritually enriching and memorable journey.

This Yatra not only offered profound spiritual fulfilment to the LCDPs and their families but also served as a significant step towards restoring dignity, fostering community participation, and promoting societal acceptance for the marginalised LCDP community. It was made possible through the dedicated support of service-oriented and government organisations committed to the well-being of Divyangjan.
