Public attitudes toward Leprosy Cured but Deformed Persons (LCDPs) often range from sympathy to stigma, leaving them marginalized despite being cured. Recognizing that true rehabilitation requires societal integration, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, implements Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) to empower LCDPs socially and economically. Rooted in Bharatiya family and cultural values, this holistic approach eliminates stigma, promotes self-reliance and dignity, and ensures their meaningful contribution to society.

As part of its CBR services, the Math organizes Holy Yathras for LCDPs and their families. This year, for the eighth time, the Yathra has been planned to cover Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Gaya, and nearby areas. Notably, this is the second Kashi Yathra specifically arranged for 33 LCDPs and their families. To enrich their spiritual journey, a guidance event was held on 27th February 2025 at the Math.

The event began with an Arati and a welcome address by Shri V. Radhakrishnan, an LCDP and skilled carpenter. Dr. S. Sivasubramanian spoke on “Kashiyil Gurudevar,” followed by a unique presentation on “Kashi Yathiraiyin Magaththuvam,” by ‘Kalaimamani’ Smt. Gowri Rajagopal, a renowned Kathakaalaksheba artist and the Special Guest of the occasion. Special Guest Shri. Raman from Anusham Trust distributed essential items to the Yathris and brought the Kanchi Periyava Ratham for veneration. A girl child, Yokshitha, recited the Shiva Puranam beautifully, mesmerising the whole audience.

Swami Satyaprabhanandaji Maharaj of the Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence (VIHE), Chennai Math, delivered a discourse, blessing the Yathris and emphasizing the Yathra as a sacred Yagna. Maharaj encouraged the chanting of sacred verses before, during, and after the Yathra to deepen devotion. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shri R. Lakshmanan, followed by Prasadam distribution. The gathering experienced a serene environment filled with Satsang, spiritual rejuvenation, and blessings of the “Holy Trio.”
